A GOLDEN FANFARE
A NAFAS anniversary and a special one indeed For 50 years in flowers is what we have achieved. We’ve decorated abbeys and churches large and small We’ve decorated minsters, cathedrals and halls.
Our Founder lived in Dorset as many are aware Her name was Mary Pope and ideas she wished to share 'Twas she who had the vision to nurture a love of flowers And form an Association that we now consider OURS.
From one small club in Dorchester we now have many more But finding committee members is something of a chore We beg and plead with members to give us some support To help us run our flower clubs, though nerves can get quite fraught!
Through all those years of flowers we’ve made so many friends Some no longer with us but in our memories they remain. For their knowledge and their guidance and their foresight to propel The art of flower arranging- something we do so well.
NAFAS has achieved so much in two score years and ten Who would have thought THIS hobby could attract so many men! As members of this Association, we all have played our part To help benefit many charities and good causes through our art.
Our talents, skills and know how have brought us to this date Inspiration and interpretation - words to which we associate. Our shows and competitions are something to acclaim For what started out just locally now has its World-wide fame.
Those flowing styles of Constance Spry and others so to speak Are now replaced with modern work and trying new techniques. We bunch and bundle stems and twigs, and wire leaves and flowers We stroke and manipulate our plants which keeps us quiet for hours.
Our hope is for our art form to continue to expand And be a constant pleasure to all throughout the land. So here today let’s celebrate with friends from far and near And raise a toast to NAFAS in this Golden Fanfare Year.
