G O L D M E D A L We are proud to announce that Broadstone & Corfe Mullen Floral Decoration Society, who represented Dorset & Guernsey Area at the RHS Malvern Spring Gardening Show in May 2010, have achieved a Gold Medal in the Area Class with their interpretation of the class title ‘Celebrating Gardens’. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Inspired by the work of Patrick Blanc and with its own title of ‘Onwards & Upwards – The Vertical Garden’, the exhibit was designed to resemble a city skyline with glass and mirrored reflective surfaces against a grey ‘sky’ backdrop. The tall black structures ranged in height from 30cm to 2m. Gutters containing cress traversed the buildings and amaranthus dripped from an upper level. The mechanics were wire cutlery trays, 21 in total, into which cling-wrapped floral foam was secured. The flowers were blocked according to shape, colour and form and leaves were layered or curled, then pinned into the floral foam. Lotus seedheads sprayed black and given a dusting of silver looked like air conditioning ducts. The main ‘fillers’ were black spray-painted hydrangea heads, moss, cress, cress and more cress - 110 punnets to be exact!! ![]() The Team: Richard, Lesley, Gill, Lynne
